Become a Host Site

HOST SITES

Community organizations with otherwise unused spaces in their buildings, provide space for families to stay. Volunteers may be involved with the following:

  • Cooking and hosting dinner

  • Spending the evening with families, talking, tutoring kids, or playing games

  • Sleeping overnight in the space

  • Coordinating children’s crafts & activities

  • Donating necessary supplies for the hosting week

  • Setting up and breaking down guest families’ rooms at the beginning or end of a rotation

MANAGEABLE COMMITMENT

  • Families stay overnight, not 24 hours a day, usually from dinner time to the following morning breakfast.

  • Each site may choose to host families for as little as just one week at a time four times a year, to as much as three consecutive months each year. Then guests rotate to another site.

  • Guests usually consist of only two to four households, which may be 4-6 persons, or 14 children & adults max

  • Family Promise runs criminal background checks and drug screenings on all program participants

  • A Family Promise volunteer vetted driver transports guests and families to and from the host facility each morning and evening, if they do not have their own transportation

  • Family Promise volunteers help relocate all guests and families from one site to the next when each rotation cycly ends.

VOLUNTEERS OF ALL FAITHS ( or NO FAITH) COMING TOGETHER TO CHANGE

Family Promise’s shelter program relies on a partnership of interfaith congregations and other groups to help local families facing homelessness. Each host site provide lodging, but can rely on volunteers from inside or beyond their organization to provide meals and hospitality to families in need.

For families in the program, each day begins with breakfast at a host site with volunteers, followed by a van ride to a staffed Community Center.

In the evening, guests return to each host site, where volunteers provide dinner and spend some quality time. The evening hours are for homework, relaxing, and family fun as they would be in any home of family and friends.

As guests sleep safely and securely in private spaces by household, volunteers sleep nearby ready to support anyone that may have a need in the night.
